mi abanico
today i will talk about my favourite tool here in bcn. as we already said, it is incredibly hot and you spent your time if only you can in acclimated rooms. if outside you try not to move or at least little as you can.
but you have to do some things, meetings, work to go to. so you use the metro frequently where you pass from incredibly hot (while waiting) to freezing cold (when the metro is more or less empty). additionally there are those rush hours, when it is cramped and everyone is sweating and heating the air in her environment. pfffff.
and then no breeze is there around cooling your head.
that for, spanish people still stick to the use of the ancient and astonishing simple and effective instrument they call abanico. when i came, i couldn't believe that there are actually people using fans, still, in public, not only old women or young girls somehow imported from the middle ages. But it is not at all out of fashion over here.
one year later, actually 2 months ago i bought my own one. it is fantastic. so easy and effective and it accompanies me wherever i go. i swear that tux is contributing his share to the coolness and making it even more relieable. i have to admit, yesterday it crashed to the flor and broke but i fixed it easily. normaly it is pretty stable and userfriendly if handled with care.
certainly i will miss the habit of fanning in germany.
ok, i can take it with me, sure. but it will look odd, sitting at the bodensee or in weimar, fanning and waiting for the air to cool down....
but then again, its not that hot. bueno.
